Web developer software for Mac

Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2006-04-17

I have often been asked which software I am using when write Websites. So here is my list of which software I use and a tiny review for all of them:

Taco HTML Edit by Taco Software - Freeware
Taco HTML Edit is a simple and fast interface for working with both HTML and CSS. It can organize your tags and adds colors to your markup which makes the code so much easier to work with. One of the features I look the most is the batch edit functionality which can find and replace in several files at the same time -without it I'd be lost.

ColorTagGen by R.A.D. Productions - Freeware
A really powerful tool for finding just the right color with the Mac OS color picker and outputs it in a RGB value for use in CSS stylesheets.

CSSEdit by MacRabbit - Shareware
If your working with CSS, you got a large scale site with many pages, several stylesheets for several different media/platforms… Then you cannot get around without CSSEdit. Really, it makes CSS so much easier and auto-completing is always welcome.

Linotype FontExplorer X by Linotype - Freeware (with built-in font store)
Great for managing and picking just the right font for your content. Works much like Apple's iTunes and has a iTMS like store for fonts.

So there you have them! My favorite Web design software for Mac OS which I believe to be the applications I have used the most since I first got my Mac.

And I have to add a little note here that I do some sketches in Nvu, but most sketches are done by hand.

Personally I use smultron for any Website work. It's fast, free and useful.

I'd like to throw TextMate in there as well, as it just rules as a text editor (and the tab triggers just make it the best for me!)

I use Taco HTML for code changes where I know what I need/want to change and don't need the layout at hand.

In the Sites folder, which is where I store my Web sites for editing, I also feature a Taco HTML alias so I can quickly load Taco while working with the sites, without having to Spotlight it or have it claim a slot in my dock.

ColorTag was really useful too. Thanks for that :)

I prefer Zend Studio. Great PHP bugchecking, and I also use some of Zend's server-side products so it integrates well. Another thing is that it is multiplatform and I am a recent switcher from Linux so I just continue to use the same product as I used on Linux.
