Why write Web content?

Before you start a blog or write a Webpage you have to know what the page is for and why you are writing it.
Why? Because else you would not be able to get anything done and no one will ever care about your site.
You need a plan for how your supposed to run your new site and keep it update with fresh content. Here are some good questions you should ask yourself before starting:
- What is the topic for this site?
- Why am I creating it?
- How will I keep it updated?
- What is its purpose?
- And the ultimate one: is this really new content?
If your writing a blog or journal; you will almost always be reposting some one elses thoughts or ideas. So you have to try and aim it from a different angel, mash it up with other news or just try to be a little inventive.
If your just reposting content off digg and Slashdot no one would possible see any value in your site. But, if you could aim your reposting from a new perspective it would become more interesting at one's.
Let's say you have a blog on global warming. Then you could take an article from Slashdot about a new kinda car and write about how that new car would impact the environment. You would at once get a whole new audience and some would even be interested in your content.
And thereby you could blog about that car for a while. And then find a new car on digg and expand your site.
The point being: you have to have something new and valuable to add. And you really need to keep to one main topic.

[...] It should be simple but, honestly, wayyyy too many people do not follow these guidelines. I’ve lost track of the amount of people who hear that I’m the web design guy and ask me for my opinion of their webpage. All too often it’s unoriginal and I see no reason why these people made the site in the first place.
If you’re going to actually invest effort into something at least think about it a little bit beforehand. [...]
