Using search to boost Alexa ranking

Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2006-08-06

Search is a great accessibility tool and many Websites integrate search for Yahoo! Search and Google to their Websites.

Here we will look at the advantages of integrating search from the young search service A9 and which advantages this have over other search providers.

The Web Design Journal utilizes search provided from A9 integrated straight into the interface. This search combines search from A9's Web search with our own search via OpenSearch. Learn more about OpenSearch in our article «Draw traffic with OpenSearch

The readers advantage is that they will get our search combined with A9's own Web search. So they will get two columns with the two searches side-by-side in an easy to understand interface.

The Website's advantage is that it uses less bandwidth in providing the search, as an OpenSearch request requires less bandwidth than providing an search with interface and all. Other advantages is that the page's OpenSearch entry at A9's OpenSearch directory will get a boost of new readers and allows readers to add its OpenSearch to their search base permanently. Sending readers trough A9 will also boost the Website's Alexa ranking as A9 and Alexa shares information.

Get popular in Alexa and provide readers with a great search experience by combining a self provided OpenSearch and A9's Web search.

<form action="http://a9.com/?" method="get">
<input type="text" value="Enter search query..." name="q" />
<input type="hidden" value="sweb" name="a" />
<input type="hidden" value="Unique-A9-OpenSearch-ID" name="a" />
<input type="hidden" value="i" name="qdom" />
<input type="hidden" value="domain-name.com" name="qsite" />
<input type="hidden" value="advanced" name="quse" />
<input type="submit" vlaue="Search" />
</form>

Replace Unique-A9-OpenSearch-ID with the Website's OpenSearch-ID in the A9 OpenSearch directory to utilize the Website's own OpenSearch as a search provider. Replace domain-name.com with the Website's top level domain name to utilize A9's Web search. Other providers may be added to the search as well. But fewer will result in less cluttering.

I could not refrain from checking your site's Alexa ranking. And it had increased more than 425 000 the last month! I am really impressed.

Hello,
Christmas Day falls on December 25. It is preceded by Christmas Eve on December 24, and in some countries is followed by Boxing Day on December 26. Some Eastern Orthodox Churches celebrate Christmas on January 7, which corresponds to December 25 on the Julian calendar. December 25 as a birthdate for Jesus is merely traditional, and is not thought to be his actual date of birth.G'night
