Why the feed: URI should be avoided

Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2006-09-29

Here are my top three resons why the feed: URI not should be used to identify site feeds (RSS):

  • It requires a double URI indicator which is really unnessecary.
  • Few Web browsers and fewer feed readers support the URI.
  • The use of the URI will probabilly prevent search engine crawlers from discovering the feed.

Insted of utelizing the feed URI the feed should be styled instead. So that it will preform better in Web browsers without feed reading capabilities. FeedBurner's free service BrowserFriendly can be a quick and easy way to address this.
