hCards in Konqueror
Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2007-02-11
I just filed bug #141519 at KDE Bugs, requesting that Konqueror would detect, notify the user, and allow her to import contact details found in hCards to KAddressBook.
If you are unfamiliar with hCards (and microformats) here is a quick explanation (of the software involved as well*):
the hCard format, which uses a 1:1 representation of the properties and values of the aforementioned vCard standard, in semantic XHTML. Bloggers can both embed hCards directly in their web pages, and style them with CSS to make them appear as desired. In addition, hCard enables applications to retrieve information directly from web pages without having to reference a separate file.
Basically inline contact cards (vCards) in XML/HTML.
The K Desktop Environments's (think: Linux) default Web browser is Konqueror, which is used as a rendering engine for many other applications. KDE applications work together on many tasks. My suggested feature would allow Konqueror to find hCards, making it more easy for end users to discover and import contact information to KAddressBook.
I encourage afforts to get hCard support in other Web browsers as well.

I have sent a request for this feature to Opera as well. Opera has got its own, built-in addressbook too!

Firefox 3.0 should have it. Operator can be used Firefox 2.0 for microformats…
It's good that you filed for Konqueror, it would really be helpful for users.

If my feature request could get some more votes, we might actually see this already in KDE 4! So please vote for Microformats!
