Sitemaps are everywhere!

Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2007-04-11

Even in sites' robots.txt files sitemaps have start making there presence known! Ask! Search, Yahoo! Search, Windows Live, and Google have all said they will start looking for sitemaps in the robots.txt files. Sitemaps auto-discovery have been born!

By adding Sitemap: http://example.com/sitemap.xml to a site's robots.txt file search engines will now be able to detect the presence of a sitemap by them self. So there is no reason to manually submit it to every engine anymore.

I think the new industry standard for sitemap discovery is smart. It would be cool if news feed discovery could work the same way!
