Firefox 3 and brings Microformats closer to the masses

Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2007-06-11

Pointers are Firefox 3's implementation of Microformats. Pointers will detect Microformats on web pages, and change the mouse cursor to indicate an application that can handle the specific Microformat.

For instance the cursor might change to KAddressBook's icon when hovering over an hCard.

The current working draft of Firefox 3's preferences tab for pointers is pretty self explaining:

Firefox 3’s Pointers preference

I think this will work out really great and that it will raise awareness of Microformats and semantic markup. I am at least looking forward to this functionality. Hopefully it will catch on and actually become a useful tool!
