Emurse Europe
Words by Daniel Aleksandersen on 2007-07-13
I have been playing with online resumé service Emurse.com for a couple of days. I have found it surprisingly useful! This web service let users create highly customizable online resumés.
Too bad there is not a European version.
User interface
Emurse has a delightful user interface. Creating and publishing a resumé is done in minutes! There are however two things I want to comment:
- It runs painfully slow in the Opera browser.
- The top navigation tabs are somewhat confusing. It is hard to know which sub menu elements are available under which tab.
This is also one of the very few websites I have seen with useful tips in the sidebar. Usually these tips are more annoying than helpful.
The resumés
They look professional and there is hardly anything a user can do to screw them up.
In the basic version users can choose from three layouts. With a paid account you get access to some more. The layouts do an excellent job with presenting the most important information.
For instance they applying a bold font weight to the job places and school names only. Leaving headlines and other elements that is usually bolded as normal text. This works out really great and emphasize the listed elements instead of the list itself.
The only thing I am missing is a portrait photo.
The resumés can be exported to a variety of document formats, including PDF and ODT. They also offer an hosted version for web and email.
No European version
Sadly the service is not useful to me. It is localized and focuses solely on the USA market. I think Emurse should expand into Europe market too. Mostly because I could use it. But also because there is a need for a online resumé service over here too.

Thank you tremendously for the kind words regarding Emurse.com.
I'd love to hear more of your thoughts regarding localization for Europe. We're limited, currently, when it comes to job matching. That doesn't mean that we can't find ways to make things more CV friendly though
E-mail me directly if you get the chance!
