Make a great web design: use the print version instead!

While working on my somewhat secret printing project I had a revelation. The print version of the web is much better than the actuall web version! I have been browsing the web in Opera’s print preview mode for a few hours tonight. It is so much better than the real thing!

The full internet is flawed. It has too many nifty widgets and so called social media tools that it takes forever to download a page. By disabeling Flash, JavaScript, and browsing in print preview mode you get a simple, easy to use version of the web.

I actually urge web designers to remove everything that is not strickly nesecary. Strip out all the bookmarking tools, all the blinking advertisement, comment add-ons, and whatever. Try tearing of the sidebar too!

As an example: Compear the printed version and the on-screen version of Wikipedia’s Copy (written) article. You will see that the printed version present the content much better than the on-screen version.

Something has to be done! Things have got to change! Fast!

I still think there is a place for my print formatting service. (More details will be disclosed soon.) However I think the market just changed…
