I am currently in the process of closing on a house. And I cannot tell you how nice it is to have the first time home buyer tax credit available to us. There are so many costs associated with a home purchase. Insurance, closing costs, and especially furniture, appliances and any repairs if needed.

This credit was also recently extended.

Many first time home buyers are tight on cash considering all of the costs and the impending mortgage payments. Having a healthy chunk of cash that you can collect as a tax credit is perfect for saving in a reserve account for rainy days. This is what I think is the idea for the program, not to have people spend it all right away. The idea is that this will help people not miss their mortgage payments.

I just came across an article in the Examiner that has blown me away. The article is found here, and it proclaims that you can now get a new pair of eyeglasses for as little as $8 a pair with $4.95 shipping!

You are asking me how can we get this fantastic deal and where is the catch? Well there really is no catch. But there are a few things that you need. The company is called Zenni Optical and the reason they can offer such affordable rates on eyeglasses is that they manufacture them in a lab in China. So as you can guess it takes about 2 weeks to get your glasses in the mail.

The other thing is that you will need to provide them with your PD (pupilary distance) number. This is not on your prescription but if you request it from your eye doctor they should provide it for you. And lastly, there are no designer frames. But after browsing the site I see some pretty good knock-off frames available.

But those are the only drawbacks, and they are not even really drawbacks. They are really just things that you need to consider. If you need your glasses right away then this may not be the best service. But you will pay handsomely for needing your glasses so quickly. At these prices I suggest ordering a few pair so that you have a back up. And order for the whole family at the same time too! Shipping is $4.95 no matter how many glasses your order.

My wife LOVES Country music, me…. not so much. But I LOVE her, so I have been trying to think of ways to accommodate her likes. I mean she goes to tons of baseball games with me and she doesn’t even like baseball. Our kids love motocross and monster trucks too. So I was driving down the freeway the other day and I saw a billboard for the PBR Bull Riding Tour. I noticed that it was going to be at one of the local Indian Casinos.

Now that would be fun for the whole family! I’ll bet the kids love it because of all the action and the animals. My wife would like it too, because of the all the country music and cowboys. LOL. Now this is not an event that I would ever have thought of going to on my own. But I think that rodeo would be an awesome event. I think it would be even better if we were able to go to one on Texas. I’m sure that there is nothing like a Rodeo in Houston. In fact I’ll bet that Houston Rodeo Tickets are some of the hottest tickets in town.

I guess for now we’ll have to consider California Rodeos, but I still think that it will be a blast!

Thanks to the recent Real Estate Bailout first-time homebuyers, or those who have not owned in the last three years, can receive up to an $8,000 tax credit. This is fantastic news, especially for those looking to buy a house soon like me! I was so pleased to find out about this.

Here is a video that I found on YouTube about it:

This is helpful in so many ways. Often times new homebuyers have many things that they need to fix or improve in a new home. There are not that many “turnkey” properties out there really. An extra $8000 to help out with mortgage payments is another possible use for the tax credit.

Many first time home buyers struggle with their bills. I think that the idea here is that it will help people not fall into foreclosure.

Some important notes are that this program is currently only good up to April 30th 2010. Although there is speculation that this program could be extended as part of an over all economic stimulus initiative. You can close by June 30th 2010 at the latest and still qualify for this as long as a written binding contract to purchase is in place by the April deadline.

It is important to book your moving services well ahead to secure your ideal moving date.

Important documents and possessions, such as wills, deeds, jewelry, photographs and home videos are impossible to replace. It’s wise to consider moving these and other important belongings to a safety deposit box while you move.

Remember to contact your local post office and fill-out forwarding address forms. Additionally, leaving a small welcome card with your forwarding address for the people moving into your old home is a nice way of asking for any additional pieces of your mail to be redirected.

Do not have your phone disconnected until after loading day.

DON’T polish your furniture! This makes the furniture slippery for the movers or yourself, also when we wrap pads around the furniture it can leave marks on the furniture where the pad was placed, do to buildup of cleaning residue!

Reserve ample parking for the truck. If parking is to be on a city street, it is your obligation to tell the movers of any meters that need to be capped by the city. In the winter, be sure to have the parking area and walkways clear of snow and ice.

Prepare an “Unload First” carton with essentials that you’ll need immediately at your new home (Essential Items). Include a bag filled with hardware from disassembled items, such as dresser mirrors and beds. Good Moving Companies Los Angele will recognize this and take extra care.

Try to keep boxes to 50 pounds or less and always lift with your legs. Tape the bottom of all boxes to make certain they will hold your belongings.

Pack books flat, not standing on end (which may cause damage to the spines). Books are extremely heavy, so don’t pack too many in one box.

Items that can’t be moved with us include: flammable items, combustible items, aerosol cans, hazardous materials (Items that are flammable, corrosive or explosive)
Moving Company Los Angeles
If you are in the Los Angeles area and moving soon you can call 1-800-431-3920 for a free moving quote. They are also great Los Angeles Office Movers so if you have an office to move give them a call.

Getting through college was exceptionally difficult for me. My family had no money and I was not super motivated to do well in school after I finished high school. After working many different jobs, scraping by to make the bills and put a roof over my head, I finally wised up and figured out that if I ever wanted to go anywhere with my life that I had to get an education.

At this point I started applying for student loans, as well as financial aid. I was fortunate enough to get the maximum award for both. But that was still not enough. I was not able to work full time AND attend school full time. So I decided to apply for private student loans to help me with bills like gas, car insurance, and rent. Thankfully I was able to get enough loans to pay my bills so that I could focus my attention on school. Once I did this my grades excelled and I eventually won a bunch of scholarships!

If you are having financial trouble while working towards your degree then student loans are the way to go. And remember that there are not just federal and state loans, but there are also a number of good private student loans with great rates available for you.

It is such a shame these days that businesses, especially local businesses, are spending money on marketing blindly. They are not getting the data necessary to back up their decisions. Tracking you marketing initiatives has never been easier than it is today.Simply using a call tracking number is one of the best ways to measure the success of certain marketing initiatives.

I found this outstanding Call Tracking Video to help illustrate the point:

Get the point?

Call Fire offers some other great calling related services such as Voice Broadcast which is basically an email/newsletter marketing campaign but done over the phone. You record your message and enter your list of numbers to blast it out to and Call Fire does the rest! Pretty awesome, I never knew that this was something that people could do. They also offer Virtual Call Centers which I am not too familiar with but I am sure if you were in the business you would understand.

I love their site because it has great visuals that explain things. That is a fantastic example of how to use media to tell your story so take note! And don’t forget to use call tracking so that you can know what is making you the most money and allocate more resources to those things.

I was introduced to a fantastic SaaS solution for online collaboration today. The service is called OpenACircle. It is targeted towards small and medium sized businesses but it is so robust that I fell it would be great for large firms as well. The solution is from Dallas based VUELIVE, a video technology company.

The idea is that you can invite up to 50 people, I believe, to join your circle. And from within your circle you can video conference, chat, share files, and collaborate virtually. With today’s workforce becoming increasingly virtual, mobility and collaboration are crucial. You hold your meetings in the “Live Room” where you can stream live video of each other, desktop share, audio, IM chat, and take notes all from within a dedicated meeting environment!

A well laid out dashboard holds all of you data, meetings, messages, and connections making it easy to keep track of everything. The dashboard also has a calendar and a status feature that allows you to let your circle be aware of exactly what you are working on at the moment. I think that this would be a great feature for teams of programmers or developers that are all working on the same project at the same time. In this type of situation it is typically easy to overwrite each others work or just not be in sync, causing projects to take much longer than they should. But a service like this would eliminate those issues.

And there is a “Library” area that houses all of your documents, articles, meeting notes, images, etc. Basically all of your files can be housed here like a virtual network drive. You can create custom folders and even a personal vault that is secured. The library feature alone makes this service totally worth it!

Go ahead and give it a try, I have a feeling that you will fall in love with OpenACircle.

If you run a server and you host domains then you have to know about server monitoring and that is one of your most powerful tools. Up time is of huge importance to site owners and most hosting companies boast about their 99.99% up times. This means that you have to work hard to maintain your servers.

But you can’t be constantly watching them, and this is where server monitoring comes in handy. Runs Like Clockwork is a company that offers a service that checks that actual html content of a website rather than just the server headers. This way you can make sure that you will never ever have the wrong site running on a client’s domain! And check out their Server monitoring price plans. After all, this type of assurance does come with at least some sort of price. It’s worth it as I guarantee you will sleep better at night. The service will even send you a message to your cell phone via SMS letting you know if a site goes down and also letting you know when it goes back up.

So do yourself and your clients a favor, get server monitoring up. Both you and your clients will sleep better at night.

Code validation is a bloated waste of time and does not get you better search engine rankings. I think that Aaron Wall of SEObook.com put it best when he said,

If you are a web designer (and/or want links from pretentious web designers) then validation is a great idea…it is core to the group circle-jerk amongst cool web designers. But for everyone else, it generally doesn’t matter.

It’s basically a way for Web designers and developers to be able to justify higher costs. In fact there are studies showing that having valid code will not necessarily equate to better search engine rankings. A test by a Google engineer named Ian Hickson, in September 2006, across billions of web pages showed that 93% of the pages did not use valid code.

The idea is to get webmasters to stop wasting time and resources on validating code and instead put those resources into real traffic generating efforts like link building, paid search, or even an online contest! Makes sense to me. Anyone out there have an argument against that?

I recently had a trip to New York, and I am embarrassed to say it was my first time ever in the Big Apple! My friends have been telling me about how great a city New York is, and to be honest I could not understand why. I mean sure its a mega city with a ton of history and entertainment. But I have been to many other big cities so I figured that NYC would be just like them. An urban jungle on steroids if you will. Plus I had preconceived notions on how the people were going to be, rude and difficult to understand, even though everyone I know said that new yorkers were actually pretty cool.

Well all of my preconceived notions flew out the door as soon as I landed. People were funny and helpful. And the town just exuded a certain vibe that is hard to explain. It was electric. In a span of about 30 minutes I was able to absorb this vibe and truly understand what people were talking about.

Only one problem, I neglected to pack my camera. So there I was in one of the most picturesque cities in the world with no camera. I went into hunter mode, thinking to myself where would be the best place to buy digital cameras in New York? Fortunately I stumbled across a place called 42nd Street Photo. They had a fantastic selection. Jackpot! I thought to myself after first taking in the scene inside the store, this is going to cost me. But the prices were actually good.

So I was finally armed with everything I needed. A new camera to take in the sites. And a new attitude about New York. I hope that you too will someday get to experience this great city, do not pass up on the opportunity if it arises.

If you want to score big points with a client, play to their egos. Now when it comes to REALLY large clients that provide tons of value you need to step it up to another level. In order to pull this off, on either a big level or even a small one, you must pay attention to what the client tells you in casual conversations. And if you are not having casual conversations with your clients on things other than work then you are not building the relationship properly.

Case in point, a very large client of mine always talks about watches. So he must really like watches I said to myself. Knowing this I made a point of studying a little bit about watches and the current trends in the high end watch niche. In doing so I discovered that tag heuer watches were very classy, well made, and had a great reputation. I ended up sending the watch you see to the right here as a thank you for doing business with me. Needless to say the client was extremely impressed and caught off guard by my kindness. Then I followed that up with a tasteful letter asking if he would be a reference for me and if he could refer anyone he knew to me.

It turns out that I have made a profit 150 times what I spent on that watch with all of the great references and referrals he has sent me. The lesson to learn here is that sending gifts to good clients is definitely worth the investment!
